Class 4A Baseball Title Preview

Who: Byng (33-3) VS Heritage Hall (32-7)

What: Class 4A State Championship

When: Saturday @ 4PM

Where: Edmond Santa Fe High School

Last Meeting: Byng Won 2-0 On March 4, 2017

Byng will square off with Heritage Hall with the 4A championship on the line. Heritage Hall is attempting to win their third consecutive state title and second straight in 4A. Byng is looking for their 11th spring title in school history. However, the last championship came back in 2001. Byng knocked off the Chargers 2-0 all the way back in early March. However, you can’t look at that match-up too much. Both teams are much different now. Byng advanced by shutting out Oologah 2-0 and then knocking off Weatherford 8-7 in the semifinals. The cardiac Chargers were at it again when they came from behind to beat Hilldale in the first round. It was much smoother on Friday when they blanked Berryhill 3-0.

Tale Of The Tape

10 Spring Titles (1949, 1951, 1953, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1972, 2001)

Entering this week, Byng had a 20-game winning streak. On Monday, they played a rare regular season game in between regionals and state against Dale. They fell to the Pirates on Monday and had that winning streak snapped. Dale is playing in the 2A championship game.

Heritage Hall Chargers

Record: (32-7)

Championships: 3 (1999, 2015, 2016)

Road To Championship Saturday
Quarterfinals: Beat Hilldale 5-3
Semifinals: Beat Berryhill 3-0

Heritage Hall is led by Arizona signee Roman Phansalkar. The future Wildcat has been instrumental to Heritage Hall capturing their last two state championships. The Chargers moved up to 4A last year after winning 3A in 2015. The change in competition didn’t slow down the Chargers as they won another title.
