Yukon quarterback and linebacker Perry Olsen committed to Navy on Thursday night. The Yukon athlete is one of the more underrated prospects in Oklahoma’s 2018 class and has a chance to have a big senior campaign. He has the perfect style for new head coach Jeremy Reed’s option offense. Two years ago, Reed’s Altus team won the 5A state title behind a workhorse running back in Taven Birdow. The former Altus star would sign with the Air Force Academy.
Olsen is currently ranked as the fourth best athlete on the OKPreps Big Board. He’s also ranked as the 29th best prospect overall in the OKPreps 2018 rankings. Olsen is the 18th prospect in Oklahoma’s 2018 class to commit to a D1 program. Additionally, Olsen is the 8th prospect to commit to an out of state program, but the first to Navy.
Navy first saw Olsen as a linebacker prospect. When watching Olsen’s defensive highlight tape, they also saw clips of the former Southmoore athlete running the ball. They asked Olsen to send more offensive tape and were more interested in the newest Navy commit.
It’s been a busy week for Olsen and fellow Oklahoma recruits. He’s the second commit in a span of few hours. Sulphur offensive lineman Jacob Farrell committed to Oklahoma State. Earlier this week, Putnam City defensive end Ron Tatum III flipped commitments from Texas to Oklahoma. Over the weekend, Bishop McGuinness offensive lineman Owen Condon committed to Georgia and John Marshall offensive lineman Nigel Brannon committed to Memphis.
