It’s a clean sweep of the awards this week for Beggs quarterback Dalton Spring. The Beggs standout is the staff pick for OKPreps Player Of The Week and he has won the Fan’s Favorite award after getting the majority of votes in the last 72 hours. Spring was a candidate for the award after he basically threw Beggs into the title game with video game passing numbers in their semifinal victory. He threw for 581 yards and four touchdowns as Beggs beat Sulphur to advance to this week’s title game.
Spring won the Fan’s Favorite award with 55% of the vote, after nearly 20,000 votes came in over the last few days. It was a two player race as Spring beat out Millwood wide receiver Demariyon Houston, who finished with 37% of the vote. This is the sixth time this year that the staff pick and the Fan’s Favorite are the same. And the staff and fans are on the same page as it’s the third straight week it’s happened as well. Owasso quarterback Will Kuehne did it back in week zero. Midwest City quarterback Preston Colbert did it in week eight and Muldrow quarterback Braden Gleason did it to wrap up the regular season in week ten. Two weeks ago, Noble running back Danny Arenado was the winner of both. Last week, it was Carl Albert’s Jason Taylor II, who was a candidate once again this week.
Spring and the Demons are getting ready for their state championship clash with John Marshall. Beggs is in the championship game for the third time in school history and they’re looking for their first state title since the 70’s.
