The 2017 football season is in the books and it was a great one. It’s time to start recognizing some of the great individual performances we saw throughout the season. It’s time for Awards Week here on OKPreps. Throughout the week, we’ll have different posts recognizing the best of the best. For the complete schedule and a look at previous posts, check it out at the bottom of this post. We continue things today with the announcement of the first ever OKPreps Career Achievement Award. This award goes to a player who has put together a storied career. While it isn’t limited to players who play in all four years of high school. It also doesn’t hurt to have that!.
OKPreps Career Achievement Award
Quarterback/Safety – Heritage Hall
When you run down the list of accolades for Heritage Hall’s Blake Adams, you’re going to need a few pages. Adams played all four years at Heritage Hall. During his time, he won three state championships and had another possible run at the title cut short to injury in 2016. He put up great numbers as a quarterback and a defensive back. He followed one of the best Heritage Hall quarterbacks in Connor McGinnis and took Heritage Hall to another level. Literally. The Chargers moved up from 3A to 4A and Adams led them to back to back undefeated regular seasons.
On offense, it’s safe to say that Adams is the best to ever play quarterback at Heritage Hall. The three-time state champion rewrote the record book for passing numbers after starting the last three years. For his career, Adams completed nearly 65% of his passes for over 7,100 yards. He finished with 94 touchdowns and only 16 interceptions. He also finished with nearly 1,000 yards on the ground and 14 rushing touchdowns in his career. Coincidentally, it was Adams’ first season under center that he put up his best numbers. Replacing McGinnis is no easy task but Adams made it look easy. He finished with 35 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions, leading the Chargers to their second straight 3A title.
On defense, Adams was a four-year starter at defensive back and put up great numbers every year. For his career, he finished with 326 tackles, 2 sacks and 13 interceptions. Adams had at least three interceptions in all four years of his varsity career. While his numbers on offense rewrote the record book, his numbers on defense were consistent and respectable each year, only one number truly represents Adams and why he’s the winner of this award.
39-0. In 39 games, Adams was the starter for the Chargers at quarterback and safety. Heritage Hall was a perfect 39-0 in those games. He led them to a perfect season and state title in 2015. He was undefeated as a starter last year before suffering an injury. He went undefeated once again this season with his third state title in four years. We don’t have the list of quarterback records in state history. However, it’s safe to say that 39-0 is near the top in state history if not the very best this state has ever seen.
OKPreps would like to congratulate Heritage Hall standout Blake Adams on a storied career with the Chargers on the gridiron. Adams’ Heritage Hall career isn’t over either. He’s been a pivotal part of the baseball team’s success over the last three years as well. He’ll look to add another ring in the spring and make an argument as one of the greatest athletes to ever step foot in the hallowed halls of Heritage Hall.
