– BY MICHAEL KNIGHT
It’s never too early to look at the future of recruiting and the 2021 class already has a few playmakers that made statements last year. In the next few days, we’ll be updating our OKPreps 2019 and 2020 rankings. However, we’re taking a look at some of the best young players in the 2021 class right here. While it’s still extremely early, these aren’t necessarily rankings and is more of a watch list as these players still have plenty of growth ahead of them.
ATHLETE – UNION
Another year, and another top prospect coming out of Union. AJ Green could end up being used in a variety of ways this fall for the Redskins. Green has seen time at running back and at corner the last two years. Wherever Green ends up on the field, one thing is for sure, don’t blink. Green is also a standout on the track for the Redskins and that legit track speed is a big part of his game.
QUARTERBACK – CARL ALBERT
The only player from the 2021 class to make the quarterback ranking is Carl Albert’s Ben Harris. After a preseason injury sidelined Carter LaValley, Harris stepped in as a freshman and led the Titans to an undefeated season and second straight state title. More impressive than that was the TD to INT ratio with 35 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions.
TIGHT END – WEATHERFORD
Another young promising prospect is Weatherford’s Ethan Downs, who cracked the top ten for receivers. While he’s only going to be a sophomore this fall, Downs is already on the radar of power five schools in this region. Downs very well could end up being at a different position when it’s all said and done. However, when you throw on the film, he’s the most impressive when he’s lined up at tight end.
DEFENSIVE BACK – BOOKER T WASHINGTON
Similar to Union, it should be no surprise that Booker T Washington isn’t going to have any drought when it comes to talented prospects. Keuan Parker has already emerged this spring and summer as a name to watch in an absolutely stacked Hornet lineup. The Hornets already have the two top defensive backs in the 2019 class with Dax Hill and DJ Jones. They might have the best 2021 DB as well.
RUNNING BACK – STILLWATER
The only 2021 prospect to make the running back Big Board is Stillwater’s Qwontrell Walker. The young running back was a big part of the Pioneers making it back to the playoffs last fall. Walker should only get better as he gets bigger and stronger. He’s a bruising back who rarely goes down at the first sign of contact.
