Basketball season is now underway, and some of the top programs in Oklahoma got their season rolling this past weekend in Texas.
On Friday, Putnam City West girl’s program opened their season by upsetting Texas power Duncanville. Sadly Saturday, they came up just a little short against Dallas Skyline. But OKPreps was on hand for some footage of their standout plays from Saturday.
The Patriots’ boys program went 2-0 down in Texas, with impressive wins against Justin Northwest and Trinity Christian. Junior Rondel Walker looks improved, and more importantly healthy after a leg injury slowed his sophomore campaign. A flurry of three pointers and other scores by Walker to end the third, sparked a rally against Trinity Christian. Walker ended up with 42 points on Saturday.
On Friday, Booker T Washington grinded out a tough victory over a scrappy Dallas Kimball squad. Saturday was a bit different for the Hornets, as they blew out Arlington Lamar. Forwards Seth Hurd and Jalen Breath dominated the glass, and sharpshooters Trey Phipps and Bryce Thompson scored buckets from all over. In the end, just about everybody for Booker T got involved in the blowout victory.
Heading into their game on Saturday at the Robert Hughes Classic in Fort Worth, Tulsa Memorial was in an unfamiliar position. The Chargers had suffered defeat at the buzzer the night before against Universal Academy out of Texas. Memorial responded in a dominating fashion, as they blew out Spring Creek Academy. Oklahoma State signee Keylan Boone was the standout in the victory. The senior wing started the game out on fire from three, and mixed in drives with impressive body control as he scored 27 points in only three quarters of play.
