After an impressive showing from both programs in Duncanville last weekend, Putnam City West returned to Oklahoma and opened their season against their intra-school district rivals Putnam City North.
The heavily favorited West girls started slow, but the dam burst in the second quarter and they ended up blowing out North by the score of 88-36. In the second half of the blowout, senior sharpshooter Megan McAlpin caught fire from beyond the arc and ended up with seven three pointers.
McAlpin was not the only Patriot to connect seven different times from long distance. In the boys’ 82-65 win, junior Rondel Walker also hit seven shots from beyond the arc. Many of Walker’s three pointers came during a crucial third and fourth quarter stretch to end a Putnam City North run.
Both programs on the shore of Lake Overholser are off to amazing starts, and look primed to be playing well into March.
