Tulsa Memorial has spent the first few weeks on the season on the road, earning battle scars from top teams from Texas and Missouri. On Thursday, they returned home and were tasked with another elite out of state team; Southwest Christian from Arkansas.
With a little over four minutes left in the game, it looked very likely the Chargers were going to leave with another battle scar. Drawing upon previous close loses against Universal Academy (Texas) and Kickapoo (Missouri), Memorial closed the game on an 8-0 run to force overtime.
In the extra frame, the momentum continued, as Keylan Boone broke out of shooting funk and hit clutch jumpers to put them ahead. While junior point guard Will Hill continued to make all the right plays. Behind the big plays of those two, and other top players in the rotation, Memorial would win 50-46 in the extra frame.
The come from behind victory also ensures that the Chargers still haven’t lost back to back games in nearly two years. The last time Head Coach Bobby Allsion’s squad last dropped two straight were December 29th Edmond North and December 30th Midwest City at the 2016 Tournament of Champions.
