Bishop Kelley senior wide receiver Cori Lewis had two announcements to make over the weekend. The first, was a somber one as the Comet playmaker would announce his senior season was officially over. But in the same tweet, Lewis would also announce that he has committed to play college football at Army.
Lewis will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Lewis initially suffered the injury in week one against Booker T Washington. The Comet returned to the lineup in their week five clash with Edison and attempted to play on it. He played well, including catching a touchdown on Bishop Kelley’s opening possession. A collision in the second half with several Edison defenders would effectively end Lewis’ senior season.
Lewis is one of the top two-way players in Oklahoma. He’s a dynamic player at the slot receiver position and makes just as many plays on defense. He was one of several big names that were returning for the Comets that made them a preseason pick to make it to the 5A championship game.
However, the Comets have suffered injury after injury as they’ve been bitten harder than anybody by the injury bug. In addition to losing Lewis, the Comets have also lost RB/DB and OSU commit Zach Middleton for the year. All state defensive lineman Montrell Cozart has also been lost for the year.
Nevertheless, Lewis becomes the 34th prospect in Oklahoma’s 2020 class to commit to a D1 football program. He’s the first Oklahoma prospect in the 2020 class to commit to Army.
