Oklahoma State landed one of the top overall prospects in the state on Sunday afternoon when Muskogee 2021 safety Ty Williams committed to the Cowboys. Williams chose the Cowboys over plenty of D1 offers from all over the country. He picks Oklahoma State less than a month after the Cowboys offered the Muskogee standout.
Williams is the ranked as the fourth best prospect in Oklahoma’s 2021 class according to our 2021 Top 60 rankings. He’s the 2nd highest rated defensive back. Behind only Beggs’ Kendal Daniels, who is the top overall prospect in the class.
Williams also plays quarterback but it appears that his future is on the defensive side of the ball. Williams was one of the best in Oklahoma last year with nine interceptions. He’s one part of a very talented defense that returns in 2020, making Muskogee a very dangerous team in 6A-D2. However, the defense will look a little different this fall. Defensive coordinator Jason Sexton is now the head coach at Shawnee.
Williams is the sixth prospect in Oklahoma’s 2021 class to commit to a D1 program. He’s the first for Oklahoma State. The others include Weatherford’s Ethan Downs and Choctaw’s Jordan Mukes who are committed to Oklahoma. Stillwater’s Tevin Williams, who is committed to Baylor. Wagoner’s Isaac Smith, who is committed to Tulsa. And Pawhuska’s Bryce Drummond, who’s committed to North Texas. Out of the six commits, Williams is the highest rated in the class.
It ended up being a very good weekend for Muskogee defensive backs. On Saturday, former Muskogee standout defensive back Kam Curl was drafted by the Washington Redskins during the NFL Draft. About 24 hours later, Williams announced his commitment to Oklahoma State.
